Have your hands and nails taken a battering over Christmas? All that glam dark nail polish and glitzy glitters! I love it all though and what’s Christmas without glitter?
If your nails now need some tlc though, I have the perfect soothing treatment for them, a luxury spa treatment.
All you need for this treatment at home is a bowl, warm water, hand soak, hand scrub, warm towels and a super moisturising handcream and cuticle oil.
Firstly remove any old polish from your nails. Fill a bowl with warm water and add a soothing handsoak to it. I always use Avon Blissfully Nourishing Nail Spa as it contains African Shea butter which is known to help soothe and soften dry skin. This also doubles up as a cuticle oil too!
Soak hands for 1-2 mins, remove and apply a scrub to your hands and wrists, in a circular motion. I like Rituals Hand Scrub, but any scrub with small beads will be good.
I’ll give you some homemade scrub recipes at the end of this post.
Place hands back in the bowl and rinse scrub thoroughly from hands. There should be no residue left on your hands.
Remove hands from bowl and wrap them in a warm towel, gently pat dry and apply a small drop of cuticle oil to the base of your nail. I love Leighton Denny Intense Manicure oil, it smells gorgeous and is a pump action bottle, massage into the whole of your cuticle area.
Next apply a generous amount of handcream to your hands and fingers and massage thoroughly in, then pop on a pair of cotton moisturising gloves. If you don’t have gloves, wrap your hands in a warm dry towel instead. My favourite handcreams to use are Crocodoil, Leighton Denny Time Repair Hand Serum and good old Avon Cocoa Butter Hand Nail and Cuticle cream.
I usually do this treatment at night and then sleep in my moisturising gloves, not a good look but it really works wonders on your nails. This is a good treatment to do every two weeks, especially if you wear gel polish, it helps to re-nourish your hands and nails.
